The farm is in Sealy, west of Houston and within reach of Austin and San Antonio. You are welcome to visit, inspect the stock, and tag the specific trees going on your job.
Why we grow in containers
A field-grown tree gets dug, and digging cuts the roots it spent years building. What arrives on your site is a fraction of the root system the tree actually grew, which is why transplant shock is normal in that trade and why planting is limited to dig season.
Container-grown trees keep their roots. The tree that leaves here has the same root mass it had yesterday, so it establishes faster, it can go in the ground in most months of the year, and it is not counting on a mild season to survive the move.
Spacing, and why it costs us money
Trees packed tight grow upward chasing light, and you end up with height but a thin canopy. We space wider than we strictly have to, which means fewer trees per acre and a slower return on the ground.
What it buys is form. A tree that grew with room around it has the canopy a design is drawn around, and it looks finished on the day it is planted rather than in five years.
Tagging
On a spec that matters, come and choose. Landscape architects tag at the nursery for good reason: two trees of the same variety and caliber can be quite different trees, and the differences that matter are easier to see in person than in a photograph.
Tag what you want, we hold it, and that is what gets loaded. If you would rather not make the drive, tell us what the job needs and we will pull the best of what we have.
